Reflections on publishing (nearly) every day

I published 18 posts on my website in August

👋

In August I set myself the challenge to post something every day on my website. I wanted to lower the bar to publishing and just getting in the habit of publishing things (especially when they aren't 'perfect').

So how did it go?

I consider it a success!

Between August 6th and August 31st I published 18 posts on my website about a variety of topics 💪

I missed a few days here and there and I could choose to focus on that, but instead I choose to focus on the fact that I had published zero in the previous eight months. So this was an excellent month for my writing.

I also successfully reduced the pressure I feel when it comes to publishing. I'm in the process of a mindset shift from trying to write something perfect to writing my perspective. If I focus on writing how I see things and my own experiences, I can never be "wrong".

Aside from writing I also did a lot of development on my website. A new colour palette , new styles, tweaking page designs, making it faster , generating random glyphs for posts, and clearing out old content I no longer find valuable.

This burst of coding productivity is also a huge win. I even build a new project ( a11y-translator ) that had been on my mind for many many months.

So where do I go from here?

In terms of writing I have two goals:

  1. Continue writing these "blogs" for my website
  2. Build a similar writing habit for publishing on Medium

I won't worry too much about frequency for either goal. I will just say that I never want to go a week without publishing something - either on my website or on Medium.

In terms of structural changes to my website, the main goal is to add search.

As I continue this writing habit the number of posts on my website will increase and I'll need a way to find things. I have some thoughts on how it might work, so I need to do some experimentation 🤔

See you tomorrow-ish 👋
