Hello 👋
I'm Hector. I'm a software developer and I enjoy writing.
But I haven't really been writing much recently, and I want to change that. So today I'm starting an experiment where I will write and publish something every single day for the next few weeks.
I'm not sure what I will write about yet. The goal is just to get used to writing and hitting that "publish" button.
I built this website from scratch using 11ty, and I haven't touched the code in months (maybe years?). But I want to make some changes. In the last redesign I added a bunch of categories for things, integrated into my note system so that I could automatically publish stuff from there, added special notes that would be "updates" for my projects, and so in. I over-engineered the shit out of it. Then I stopped writing.
So my new direction is to simplify.
There are only two types of page now: projects and writing.
And for now that is plenty.
If I continue this experiment for a long time, I might think about splitting these out from articles. But I need to write more articles before that makes sense.
So I'm going back to basics and focusing on just writing.
Let's see how it goes 🤞
I'll leave you with my new favourite quote:
complexity is just complication: a distraction that is not essential to building great things

See you tomorrow 👋
